Leaving Paradise
Simone Elkeles
Goodreads

Goodreads summary:

Nothing has been the same since Caleb Becker left a party drunk, got behind the wheel, and hit Maggie Armstrong. Even after months of painful physical therapy, Maggie walks with a limp. Her social life is nil and a scholarship to study abroad—her chance to escape everyone and their pitying stares—has been canceled.

After a year in juvenile jail, Caleb’s free . . . if freedom means endless nagging from a transition coach and the prying eyes of the entire town. Coming home should feel good, but his family and ex-girlfriend seem like strangers.

Caleb and Maggie are outsiders, pigeon-holed as "criminal" and "freak." Then the truth emerges about what really happened the night of the accident and, once again, everything changes. It’s a bleak and tortuous journey for Caleb and Maggie, yet they end up finding comfort and strength from a surprising source: each other.

I loved Match and I can't wait to read what happens next with Cassia and Ky!!!!

Crossed
Ally Condie
goodreads

Goodreads summary:

In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky — taken by the Society to his certain death — only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia’s quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander — who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia’s heart — change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

Sweet Venom
Tera Lynn Childs
Goodreads

Goodreads summary:

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight.

Goodreads summary:

The year is 1929. New York is ruled by the Bright Young Things: flappers and socialites seeking thrills and chasing dreams in the anything-goes era of the Roaring Twenties.

Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York's glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star…

Cordelia is searching for the father she's never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It's a life anyone would kill for . . . and someone will.

The only person Cordelia can trust is Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia's brother, Charlie. But Astrid's perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.

Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the illicit speakeasies of Manhattan, and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls' fortunes will rise and fall—together and apart. Rating: 5- Amazing!! I want to read it again!

Goodreads summary:

When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado . Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

Review:

I loved Elkeles’ Perfect Chemistry and as soon as I finished it I had to go out and buy this book as soon as I could. I didn’t think this book could compare to Perfect Chemistry, but it was just as good!

I love how Elkeles’ characters are always so complex, it adds so much more depth to the story and makes you want to read more. I loved Kiara; I loved how she was always up for a challenge and how by the end of the books she and Carlos had grown. Carlos what can I really say, I love my bad boys with a heart of gold on the inside. I loved seeing how he got over his pride and went after what he wanted.

I didn’t actually see Carlos and Kiara ‘fall in love’, it just didn’t flow as nicely as it had with Brittany and Alex in Perfect Chemistry and that's the only part of the book wan't up to my expectation

As a whole I fell in love with this book just as I had with Perfect Chemistry and all I can say now is bring on the next book!!!

Love Story
Jennifer Echols

Goodreads summary:

WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW.

Erin Blackwell is headed to college in New York City to study creative writing and earn a living as a romance novelist. Her grandmother has other plans: she approves of the college, but she wants Erin to major in business and then come back home to Kentucky to run the family’s famous racehorse farm. There is no way Erin will agree. Studying in New York and writing her way into a career is her escape from the farm and the family tragedy that happened there. So Erin’s grandmother decides Erin really will live life as a starving artist. She takes Erin’s future job running the farm, her inheritance, even her college tuition, and gives them all to Hunter Allen.

Hunter has lived on the farm for years. He’s Erin’s age, he’s the stable boy, and he’s the romantic dream of every girl in her high school. But he was involved in the family tragedy. Erin has always given him a wide berth. And he’s a slick opportunist. She’s furious that he fooled her grandmother into giving him Erin’s birthright and sending him to Erin’s college.

At least she’s free of him in her creative writing class. So she pens a story that has haunted her lately, in which the horse farm heiress at the very first Kentucky Derby starts a forbidden affair with the lowly stable boy. Unfortunately for her, the day she’s sharing this story with her New York classmates, Hunter walks in. He’s switching to her class. And after reading about himself in Erin’s story, he writes his own sexy assignments that lure Erin into dangerous fantasies about what could have been between them, and what might be.

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge -- and over....

Review:

This is the first book that I have read by Jennifer Echols and I fell in love. I wasn’t really sure what this book was entirely about when I picked it out, but I am glad that I picked it up. It was amazing. Echols writing just flowed off the page; I just fell in love with her writing style. It was as if I was actually in her story.

I loved this story so much; I knew that I was going to like this book from reading the preview. But when I actually started reading it it became addictive! I sat down and started reading and I couldn’t put it down, I only put it down once and that was because I had to go shopping with my Grandparents and I would have taken it with me if my mother hadn’t told me that I couldn’t :) John and Meg’s relationship was just so entrancing.

I loved Meg’s character she was just so insane and I loved for that, I totally understood and agreed with her on most part of what she did. And John I feel in love with John even though through most of the book he did seem one way but you could tell that there was something more to him, and he was so complex towards the end of the book. I loved them both!

Jennifer Echols’ wrote such an addictive book and I would say that if you’re looking for a good read or if this book is already on your self pick it up and start reading it right away! It’s worth it!

Title: Perfect Chemistry

Published by: Simon and Schuster
Age Group: Young-adult
Hardcover: 368
Challenge: Howarts Reading Challenge 2011
2011- Young Adult Reading Challenge

Rating: 5- Amazing!! I want to read it again!

Goodreads summary:

When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more. In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart.

Review:

I love this novel, it was just so amazing! I couldn't put it down. This is the first novel that I have read by Elkeles and I can honestly say that I can’t wait to read her other novels. Her writing just flows so easily and I found myself reading way more pages than I thought I actually had.

This story was so powerful and way better than I had expected it to be, I loved every second of this novel. It made me laugh and cry! And that’s what I love in a book, I want it to make me feel all different types of emotions because then it leaves some sort of impact on me.

I love how the story was told in the two different points of view. My first thought about Brittany was I was going to be reading about someone who is the queen bee and has her head stuck up her ass, but I was pleasantly surprised. Brittany had so much depth and she was complicated. She seemed more like a real person not the stereotype cheerleader. Alex was another character that surprised me, he was a gangster and once again he wasn’t the stereotypical gangster, he was so much more than that and that’s what I loved about his character. I loved watching them change and grow into something better.

I loved how the novel showed the realism of what gangs can be like and how not everyone who is in a gang is there by choice. It showed the cruelty and brutality of the Latino gang life in an incredibly honest way. Elkeles seriously did her homework for this novel and that made it all the more better knowing that she wrote about things that she had gone and researched herself and seen it firsthand.

This novel will get under your skin, it’s not just a love story and the story that gives a life lesson that we should never judge someone by the colour of their skin, where they live, how they act and what they are. This is a beautiful novel that will stick with you long after you’ve read the last page.

I had never picked up a Jody Gehrman novel before and I didn’t l know what to expect, but the detail that she gave about Natalie becoming a boy and all that she went through on her journey was amazing!

The story was a bit predictable once you got into it, (not that I’m complaining and some things did surprise me) for me that made the story even more fun to read because you know something was going to go wrong or she was going to make a little slip ups. One thing that I wish there was more of in this story was romance (just a hint more). The romance just seemed to go a little fast and there just wasn’t really that much of it.

The characters were given in so much detail and there were so many aspects to them. Natalie was an amazing character I loved her! She was witty and sarcastic everything that I like in my characters. I loved her two friends they were just so different but It worked so well with the story… did I mention that I loved them!?!

If you have this book on your shelf or are thinking of buying it, pick it now and start reading it. It’s an amazing read that will make you laugh out loud!

On My Wishlist (#21)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday.

I'm going to be adding three or more books that I have found and I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They could even be old, new or forthcoming novels.

This week we have some books that I found on Goodreads, Amazon and other places.

Goodreads summary:

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

Goodreads summary:

Once a century, one person is chosen for greatness.

Elisa is the chosen one.

But she is also the younger of two princesses, the one who has never done anything remarkable. She can’t see how she ever will.

Now, on her sixteenth birthday, she has become the secret wife of a handsome and worldly king—a king whose country is in turmoil. A king who needs the chosen one, not a failure of a princess.

And he’s not the only one who seeks her. Savage enemies seething with dark magic are hunting her. A daring, determined revolutionary thinks she could be his people’s savior. And he looks at her in a way that no man has ever looked at her before. Soon it is not just her life, but her very heart that is at stake.

Elisa could be everything to those who need her most. If the prophecy is fulfilled. If she finds the power deep within herself. If she doesn’t die young.

Most of the chosen do.
