The Last Post of 2011 (Can you believe it!)

2012 is literally a couple of hours away now. Where has this year gone? A whole year of blogging and reading has passed and I feel kind of sad that it's over (finally completed a whole year of blogging as well!)

This year has been so fun and so many things have happened that I didn't think that would happen, I managed to up to 757 followers (how the hell did that happen?) and I grateful for all you guys and for the people who just pop by read posts and comment. I also didn't expect was to make friends with blogger and authors and those friendship I treasure. I hope to make a lot more friends in 2012, so if you want to chat with me please do!

Challenge wise this year I did OK. I completed two out of the four challenges that I entered but I failed epically at the Off the Shelf challenge only reading 1 out of 25books, then I failed less epically at the 2011 Debut challenge only 2 books off completing it (I will comlete the 2012 Debut challenge though, I am detrmind!)

In 2012 I'm hoping to get a lot more done though. I'm planning to use my YouTube channel more for book related vlogs. I have got one or two other things that I want to do but I'm going to keep them as a surprise. Also I'm co-hosting the ABC Reading Challenge (Follow the link HERE to sign up.) so be expecting some post on that as well.

Bring on 2012 now that I can't figure out anything else to say! Happy reading and have a great new year!!!

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky

Maddie lives in a world where everything is done on the computer. Whether it’s to go to school or on a date, people don’t venture out of their home. There’s really no need. For the most part, Maddie’s okay with the solitary, digital life—until she meets Justin. Justin likes being with people. He enjoys the physical closeness of face-to-face interactions. People aren’t meant to be alone, he tells her.

Suddenly, Maddie feels something awakening inside her—a feeling that maybe there is a different, better way to live. But with society and her parents telling her otherwise, Maddie is going to have to learn to stand up for herself if she wants to change the path her life is taking.

4- Great!

I really enjoyed this book there was just something about it that kept my face glued to the page and kept me flicking to the next page. There was just something that latched onto me and drew me into this story. The scary part about this book was that this could be our world in the future with how much technology takes over our lives at this moment.

I loved how this book just seemed real in ways such as the main character Maddie finding herself. The characters were well rounded and easy to relate to. Justin… I loved Justin, for most of the book he just seemed like that boy that you want but can never have. I loved that. But going on from that I loved the romance, it wasn’t instant it just spanned throughout the entire book which just made it feel more real but I did get frustrated at times when I just felt like screaming ‘just kiss her already’.

Kacvinsky’s writing drew me in and kept me hanging on her every word. The words just seemed to flow off the page. Trust me when I say you wont regret this one guys.

4- Great!

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would, to be completely honest I was half and half about reading this book when I first saw it, but I am glad that I picked it up and read it. I love Greek mythology and out of some of all the books that I’ve read I’d would say that this is one of the better ones. This book was different to other YA books that I read and I enjoyed reading something new.

I loved the character they were well rounded and enjoyable to read throughout the book. The story was captivating, and I found it easy to read. I was quite surprised by the tests, I thought that they would be more of a main feature in the story and more obvious throughout the book as well. I found myself wondering when the tests were going to start. But by the end I thought that the actual tests were quite clever in the way that they were laid out throughout the book and the concept of them as well.

I enjoyed the romance throughout the book it wasn’t instant nor was it that cheesy either it just seemed right for the story. And I can’t wait to see how it continues in the next book.

Overall I found 'The Goddess Test’ an interesting read and would recommend it to anyone who loves Greek mythology.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

5- Amazing!! I want to read it again!

Why did I leave it so long to pick up this book and read it? Some one should have jabbed me with a stick until I picked it up I’d say. This book is amazing! This book was totally unforgettable and an outstanding debut. I could not put this book down until I had devoured it. I would have to say that this book is my favourite read this year. Yeah I think that just about sums it up.

This book was fast paced and full of action that kept me turning the page and glued to my chair. When I first saw this book I wasn’t really that fussed on reading it, I’ll admit that, but then after hearing all the hype for it I went out and bought a copy and then it probably stayed on my shelf for about FOUR months! Why did it take me that long to pick it up I don’t really know.

The character had depth and it was easy to relate to more than one character. I loved how each character was written, it just made me feel what they felt and that just made the book feel more real and enjoyable. It was superbly written. There was always something happening that made me turn the page until there were no more pages left to turn. The romance was almost perfect for me, I love how there was no love at first sight and how the romance was gradual and also a bit more of a back story to what was happening but also played a main part at the same time. But I would like to see more romance in the next book though.

If you haven’t read this book yet pick it up NOW because you won’t regret it trust me!

Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez

Now is not the time for Carmen to fall in love. Two weeks before the most important violin competition of her career, she has bigger things to worry about—like growing out of that suffocating “child prodigy” label, and not disappointing her mother. But it isn’t just the wrong time. It’s the wrong guy. Jeremy is Carmen’s most talented rival, and according to her mother, he’s only interested in one thing: winning.

He isn’t the only one.

Carmen is so desperate to win she takes anti-anxiety drugs to control performance nerves. But what started a year ago as an easy fix is now a hungry addiction. Her mother insists now is not the time to quit, but Carmen is sick of not feeling anything on stage and even more sick of doing what she’s told.

When the darker side of the classical music industry and her mother's ambition collide, Carmen must choose between her career and her love for music

5- Amazing!! I want to read it again!

This book was different to what I thought it would be but I still highly enjoyed it.

Good Points

I enjoyed the aspect of this story it was different to all the other books that I have read. The writing was easy to read and flowed off the page with ease. The characters were all well rounded and I did enjoy reading Carmen’s story, she was easy to relate to and she also grew throughout the book. I also loved how the story ended, it ended in just the right place for me and by that point I really like Jeremy and Carmen’s romance.

Bad Points

I thought that the romance was a bit to fast for my liking, it just felt like they hadn’t really seen much of each other before he was saying that he had fallen in love with her.

Even though the mental addiction was a bit of a back story it just seemed more of a back, back, back story to what some summaries had made it out to be. And last of all the scandal that happen (not going to say what it is) seemed a tiny bit far fetched for the plot but it did add a twist to it though. These are my only bad points.

All in all, the book was enjoyable to read and I would recommend to everyone who love music romance and drama.

5- Amazing!! I want to read it again!

I love this series so much and I could not wait to get my hands on a copy of this book, and boy was it worth the wait. I would say that this is my favourite book in the series so far.

Good Points

I loved the romance, this books was probably the best for the romance out of the series so for just for the point that it seemed that they were just together, they weren’t really getting to know each other, he wasn’t trying to keep her away to protect her… they were just together. It gave the story more depth than the others in the series.

I enjoyed the plot it kept the story going especially after the cliff-hanger of the last book and it added a new adventure for Patch and Nora which I loved. And the writing was intriguing and just flowed off the page.

Bad Points

There is only one bad point that I can think of for the book and that was that I was that I was slightly confused to what was going on in the first few chapter but I did understand the point of it as the story went on.

All in all I loved this book and it makes me want to read this series all over again!

Book Event: Becca Fitzpatrick signing!

Over a week ago I was able to attend one of the stops on Becca Fitzpatrick's UK tour for her newest book in the 'Hush, Hush' series 'Silence'. I had to travel for around two hour on a train to cross the border from Wales into England for the Birmingham stop, but it was worth it!

When we got there it actually took us about an hour to find the venue because we got lost about five time and when we finally found a Waterstones book store we found that it was the wrong one! And we had to walk another ten minutes to find the right one. It was huge! Some of you might think that I'm exaggerating when I say that it
eight floors and a whole floor for YA and middle grade. But I come from a valley which doesn't even have a bookstore in town! I have to travel twenty minutes at least to go to a bookstore which has everything on ONE floor. So I was in heaven!

When we actually got to the signing and there was already a massive line, Becca did come early though and then it was only about an hours wait and I did manage to get my whole 'Hush, Hush' series signed and an extra copy of 'Silence' which I just finished the giveaway for.

Becca was really nice and funny and took the time to talk to everyone and sign ALL the book that they had brought with them.

After I had my books signed I looked around the store and actually spent all of the money that I went with! When we left the store we walked back to the train station which was actually a five minute walk away! And ate a Burger King in 'Silence' (sorry couldn't resist) while we waited for the next train to arrive. But all in all it was a great day and my mother is now pawning that off as my birthday present!

On My Wishlist (#40)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday.

I'm going to be adding three or more books that I have found and I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They could even be old, new or forthcoming novels.

This week we have some books that I found on Goodreads, Amazon and other places.

..........
This sounds so cool and the cover is beautiful!!!

Hemlock
Kathleen Peacock

Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.

Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.

Along with her best friend Dante and their quiet and brilliant classmate Lance, she is awarded a prestigious internship in the big city— Chicago—and is sent to live and work at a swanky and stylish hotel under the watchful eyes of a group of gorgeous and shockingly young-looking strangers: powerful and alluring hotel owner Aurelia Brown; her second-in-command, the dashing Lucian Grove; and their stunning but aloof staff of glamazons called The Outfit. Teaser Tuesday (#22)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
